Hello, there.
My name is Melanie, and I’m passionate about following Jesus in every corner of my life, be it momentous or mundane. I want to be a holy listener, paying attention to what the Spirit has to say and calling attention to what God is doing. Thus, everything I write winds its way in and around the movements of the Spirit who is present with us in all things, always inviting us to be part of building the Kingdom on Earth as it is in heaven.
I have a love for liturgy, the rhythms of the Church seasons, and the sacramental nature of corporate worship. As a Pastor of a Free Methodist Church, one of my favorite parts of the job crafting weekly services with the intention of opening us up to hear and respond to God’s loving invitation. Through scripture and sacrament, song and sermon, call and response we encounter the healing of Jesus and are equipped to go out and bring that healing into the world.
I have been married to my husband, Kevin, since May 2008. He is the person who faithfully calls out my giftedness and loves me enough to call me on my crap. When I’m in a healthy place, he keeps me laughing hysterically. When I’m stressed, he takes the brunt of my misplaced criticism. He is the most amazing partner I could have asked for, in life, in parenting, in pastoring.
Five years of infertility shaped my spirituality in more ways than I can know, deepening my faith and dependence on Jesus. For reasons beyond my comprehension, our Creator granted us two daughters who bring us more delight and more frustration than we could have possibly imagined.
In past lives I have loved teaching yoga classes (but not going to yoga), singing in a community choir (but not listening to the radio), laundering cloth diapers (but not washing my own clothes), and taking my kids to the zoo (but only on random rainy Tuesdays when there’s 12 cars in the parking lot).
I’m an ESFJ Myers-Briggs, an Enneagram 7w8 , and my top 5 Strengths include Empathy, Input, Activator, Competition, and Maximizer
